About Pillar of Hope

At Pillar of Hope, we are more than just a church; we are a community of faith, hope, and love.

Our Vision

At Pillar of Hope Church, our vision is clear and unwavering; to be a radiant beacon of hope, a place where lives are transformed, and where God’s love is tangibly felt by all who walk through our doors.

Our Mission

We believe that through faith in Jesus Christ, lives can be radically transformed, love can be shared abundantly, and faith can be a steadfast guide in an ever-changing world. This is the essence of our mission.

Our History

The history of Pillar of Hope Church is a testament to the enduring power of faith and the remarkable
journey of a community bound together by a shared vision of hope, love, and spiritual growth.

2020

Pastor Crews

In early 2020 Pastor Crews and Rev. Cedric Brown, Pastor of Destiny Covenant Church began discussing the possibility of a merger of the two respective churches and what that could look like. Both churches had small aging congregations, that shared ministry values, goals and very similar visions. The conversations began as a way to be more effective in ministry, reduce expenditures, and enlarge the congregation. With the onset of Covid, the conversations stopped temporarily. At that point, both congregations were homeless and worshipping at the Birmingham Metro Baptist Association Building. Shortly thereafter Pastor Brown suffered a health crisis and had to step down as Senior Pastor. After much prayer and many conversations, each congregation then reignited the discussion to merge.

2022

The Congregations Agreed

The congregations agreed it to be the will of God to merge the two churches. In July 2022 the two congregations voted to dissolve and form Pillar of Hope Christian Church. After the new church was formed, the opportunity to purchase a campus came to light. In December 2022, Pillar of Hope acquired the former Robinwood Baptist Church just outside of Tarrant.

2023

We Took Possession

We took possession of the property and moved into the building in February 2023. Since then, we have launched our various ministries, a community food pantry, feeding program, and podcast series. At the time of the church’s formation, we formed a Community Development Center. In partnership with Auburn Extension & Jones Valley Teaching Farm, The CDC has established a community garden, free ballet and dance classes, and a community youth choir for the children has been established.

Our Ministries

The mission for our outreach ministry is to bring the word of God to all people ”Matthew 28:19-20". To reach the marginalized and forgotten. To build up everyone we come in contact with and strengthen them where they may be broken. To have a holistic approach in trying to meet the needs and pointing them in the right direction. Lastly, to give spiritual guidance to connect them in a relationship with God.

Meet Our Lead Pastor

“Rev. Amos L. Crews Jr. was born in Marion, Perry County, Alabama in1958.”

He grew up in Birmingham and attended A.H. Parker High School. He went on to attend Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.
Pastor Crews is married to his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Sharon Sanders-Crews of Selma, Alabama.

They have four sons, Joshua, Brandon, and twins Clayton and Clinton; and six grandchildren.
Pastor Crews accepted his calling to the ministry and was licensed in 1994 at Harmony Street
Missionary Baptist Church. He served as Youth Pastor until 2000 when he was called to South
Park Baptist Church as Pastor. He served there until 2002 when he felt called to plant a new
church.

In 2002, Rev. Crews along with 14 followers started Christ First Community Church in the
basement of his home. God had given him a big vision of what a Christ centered church should
look like. Over the year the church experienced many ups and downs. However, God created
Amos as a visionary, a builder, a dreamer.

Since our formation, our ministry has partnered with Samford University, the Birmingham
Metro Baptist Association, and several other local churches. We also formed the Pillar of Hope
Community Development Corporation, a non-profit designed to help change the trajectory of
our community.
